This is a basic outline to stimulate inspiration
for writing a eulogy. It is important to read the eulogy aloud prior to the service and become comfortable with the material
in this emotional time. Be mindful of repeats of information and details, if it is a shared/unified eulogy, with more than
one person presenting.
A eulogy can generally be anywhere from
10-20 minutes in length. The time extends when opening up space for others to share memories. This is a good practice, when
the person presenting the eulogy, is nervous and/or anxious. Allowing other’s to share relieves tension and pressure.
Read eulogy aloud to a trusted family member,
or the presiding pastor, before the service. Have a glass of water near by while reading at the ceremony. Relax and remember
that you are surrounded by loved ones and you CAN’T do it wrong.
Would the family like to open up the opportunity
for comments about the departed loved one to friends and family attending the service?
